GROW Weeks – Info for GROW Places

What is a GROW Week?

GROW Weeks are when GROW Places and the GROW team can plan activities, work on sensor distribution milestones and release useful resources. We are asking Community Champions to be a part of GROW Weeks when developing your own strategy for the year, so that your community has the opportunity to participate, and so GROW can support you in delivering the Mission milestones.

How will GROW Weeks help your GROW Place?

During each GROW Week, there will be specific goals, such as recruitment of new sensor users, data collection, sharing of knowledge, etc. The GROW team will also have a focus during each of these weeks, and will have various workshops, materials and tools available to the GROW Place communities. The added element of gathering together helps build connections between the community and also creates room for a bit of fun!

Dates

GROW Week March

Dates 9-16 March 2019
Goal: Get sensors in the ground and registered by 18 March, existing sensor users collect data

To take part: Community Champions can facilitate existing sensor users to check their sensors are registered with GROW and their coordinates are accurate by 31st March. They can also organise a recruitment event to bring in new sensor users. You can also invite existing sensor users to share their experiences.

What GROW offers in support: The GROW team will be in touch from 21 Feb, to check in with you on your sensor deployment strategy and to help you in whatever ways we can to organise this – this might include assistance with messaging, advertising or logistics, etc. We can provide ideas for activities and GROW materials. We can also support some costs, this will need to be agreed between the Community Champion and the GROW team.

The outcome of this GROW Week will be your community mobilised with new people brought in to help increase the number of sensors in the ground and registered, data gathering to help get you to your next milestone (and funding!). This will help our scientists immensely. There will also be increased awareness for your GROW Place, and distribution of new GROW materials for a variety of audiences.

Data collection March

Dates 23-29 March
Goal: Collection of data from as many placed sensors as possible

To take part: GROW will be sending information to the sensor users, so Community Champions only need to join in if they would like to notify their GROW Place community or amplify the activity.

What GROW offers: Prior to the 23rd of March, we will check and update our contact details records for data contributors with registered sensors. GROW will then send them a letter in the post to thank them for being involved and to ask to collect sensor data and submit land survey information by the 29th of March. The protocols for collection will be included.

The outcome of this activity will be the collection of data from at least 300 sensor users, which is vital for our scientists’ validation work. This will also add to the GROW Citizen Observatory data sets, and we are creating materials to help you understand and use your soil data on a local level.

GROW Week May

Dates 25-31 May
Goals: Knowledge sharing, community check in, GROW publication of info packs, data sets, tools and other results

To take part: GROW Week May is about knowledge sharing. During this week GROW Places can host check in events, workshops, and in-person or online events – or just access new information published by GROW.

GROW Week September

Dates to be confirmed
