This page contains instructions for how to connect – https://knowledge.growobservatory.org/knowledge-base/how-to-connect-your-flower-power-account-to-grow
Inform your Community Champion and they should be able to supply you with a replacement sensor.
Set up the new sensor in the same way you set up the original sensor. Name it the same as the original sensor with an additional character to differentiate it (eg. VDL-G48 becomes VDL-G48-2)
If you wish, you can delete the original sensor from the Flower Power app – you won’t lose the data. Data from the original sensor will still be available in your account on the GROW website.
We recommend you give your sensor a different name. There are two reasons for this: (1) it is almost impossible to re-install the sensor in the exact same location, and (2) different sensors can provide slightly different soil moisture readings therefore, when the exact same name is given there might be some confusion in the interpretation of the data.
Give it a slightly different name (eg. “sensorname_2”, or “sensorname_B”). In this way you will be aware that you had 2 different sensors in the same location.
Sometimes the phone can find the sensor but it doesn’t appear in the Flower Power app.
First check if the sensors are connected to your phone’s Bluetooth by going to ‘Settings’ then ‘Blueooth’. Tell us if you see the sensors listed as devices.
Some people find that if they wait a few days, the phone will connect to the sensors on their second try.
You can also try borrowing a different phone to connect to the sensors. However, make sure you log in to the Flower Power app using the same account that you used on the first phone.
If a sensor runs out of battery it will not lose the data captured up to that point. After the battery is replaced, the sensor data collected by the Flower Power app will include any measurement collected until the sensor stopped working.
Yes, This is covered fully in the Training Manual, p15 which you can view and download from the GROW Help & Support pages or through your GROW Place Community Champion. If you do not have internet connection next to your Flower Power Sensor data collection is still possible. Data is collected from the sensor using Bluetooth and if there is no internet available it will be synced when internet is available. The app syncs data automatically every 2 hours and you can also do a manual sync, see the Flower Power user guide, p8.
Important note: Since information about the sensor location is generated only the first time data are uploaded using an internet connection from your smartphone to the cloud, it is important to be as close as possible to the sensor(s), ideally less than 1 metre away, in order to capture most accurate coordinates. In fact, it is not the sensor’s location itself that is recorded, but the coordinates of your mobile device (smartphone or tablet). Don’t be alarmed if the collected data are not visible in the time series plots of the flower power app. Data only become visible in the app after having been uploaded to the cloud. Therefore, continue with step 2 of registering your sensor when you have internet connection. However, please note that the automatically stored coordinates of your sensor are likely to be inaccurate. Please check the position of your sensor in My Data page and correct it if needed.
It is possible for one person to register many sensors to one Flower Power account. We have users who have registered 50 to 80 sensors to once account in the Flower Power app.
On the My Data page you can enter the correct geographic coordinates. Make sure that your coordinates do not contain a , symbol, only a . symbol.
Here are instructions for how to find the geographic coordinates of a location using the Google Maps app on your smartphone:
Touch and hold on the area of the map you wish to record. You’ll see a red pin appear.
You’ll see the coordinates in the search box at the top.
First check your Flower Power account is connected. Go to this page and click your name in the top right, click ‘My Connected Apps’.
If it says ‘Connected!’ email us, including the email address that you used to register with the GROW website.
If your Flower Power account is not connected, follow these instructions to connect it.
It seems that it is taking a few days for all sensors to appear on the My Data page. To begin with, try waiting a week and checking the page again to see if more sensors have appeared. If nothing changes, please email us.
It will be helpful if you can include a list of any of the sensors that are not visible. If possible, send the serial number* of each sensor. If that’s not possible, send the sensor ID that is listed in the app.
*Serial numbers can be found written in very small letters at the top of the metal part of the sensor. If you didn’t write down these numbers before planting the sensors, don’t take the sensors out of the soil now.
We advise people not to do this as they may encounter problems being able to view all their sensors in both accounts.
If you need us to delete a GROW account for you, please contact us
Yes. You can install a program on your computer that will allow you to do this. Please follow these instructions for downloading the program.
If you have any further questions about installing the program, email us.
The GROW team has extensively tested the sensors in different climate across Europe and different soil types and found them to be in good agreement with professional sensors and have negligible variation between sensors. Figures on the accuracy of the sensors can be found on the Flower Power website
Accessing the app and website
Please email us explaining exactly what happens when you try to log in.
Also explain if you are trying to log in to the Flower Power app or when connecting your sensors on the GROW website.
You can change your password here – https://api-flower-power-pot.parrot.com/oauth2/v1/forgot_password
If you have problems, please email us to let us know.
You can use your Gmail email address to create an account but you must not just to use your existing Google login details to start an account. On the Flower Power login page, don’t click the ‘Google’ button, enter your email address and a password into the boxes. You can enter an email adress that ends @gmail.com.
If you use the ‘Google’ button to login, GROW will not be able to access the data you collect in the account.
No. After testing, we discovered that placing the sensor on its side does not give accurate readings. The sensor should be positioned upright.
Any piece of land is suitable for placing sensors as part of the GROW Place, as long as:
• The location is within the identified priority area (50km2) of your GROW Place.
• The sensors are placed in a representative plot of land (eg. 30m of homogeneous land around the sensor), as described in the manuals
• The surrounding environment of the sensor locations are duly described in the Land Survey in the GROW app.
So, there are no limits regarding agricultural vs. forested land. In fact, it would be best if we have a diversity of land use types – so far, the Mission is mostly covering agricultural land in the different GROW Places.
